In October, the museum opened an impressive exhibition featuring two wooden boat wrecks from the 17th and 18th centuries. These historical treasures have been carefully recovered and restored after a long process, and represent an invaluable testimony of our maritime history and the port activity of the time.
These remains, found in 2012 during work to remove the train crossing in the Plaza de los Carros in Tarragona, have been transferred to the Center for Underwater Archeology of Catalonia in Girona for conservation. They are now displayed on a two-level platform in the museum, allowing all visitors to enjoy a full view of the vessels, known as ‘1’ and ‘500’.
We are proud to announce that our museum production company has been in charge of designing and producing the display cases and locations where these fascinating wrecks are exhibited. The incorporation of these elements not only enriches the archaeological heritage of the Port Museum, but also highlights the importance of underwater archeology in the recovery of objects that tell our history.
Furthermore, the restoration of the items found next to the boats has been a success, ensuring that they are preserved in excellent condition. With the recent inclusion of the Port Museum in the registry of Museums of the Generalitat, the relevance of this exhibition is multiplied.
