The museum, which is part of the Network of Local Museums of the Diputación de Barcelona, was created in 1953 in a space of the Textile Factory of Can Samaranch by its director, Enric Madorell i Claramunt (1897-1990) and in 1968 it was moved to its current headquarters.

In 2011 it moved its headquarters to Ca n’Ametller with the aim of becoming a center of quality services and available to all citizens. Its activity will focus on the conservation, documentation and dissemination of local heritage
